Clarke Johnstone, New Zealand’s only onshore based Eventing High Performance Squad member, cruised to victory in the iSpy Horses CCI2* class at the recent Puhinui International Three Day Event.

Rio Olympian Johnstone and Wolf Whistle II finished on their 47.8 penalty point dressage score, well ahead of second-placed Angela Lloyd (Hunua) aboard Lyrical on 63.5.

There were a line-up of squad members in the Honda New Zealand CCI3*. Future Potential Recognition Squad member Emily Cammock (Christchurch) finished second aboard Shaw Lee. The combination led after both the dressage and cross country, despite adding 12.4 time penalties to their 47.6 penalty point tally. A rail in the showjumping saw them slip to second behind Bundy Philpott (Cambridge) aboard Tresca NZPH who came from behind to take the win.

It was a busy weekend for Cammock who also won the Veterinary Associates CCI1* aboard Impeccable, leading from the get-go to finish on 44.3 penalty points. Her second mount Alfresco was eighth in the same class.

Talent ID Squad member Renee Faulkner (Papakura) was fourth in the CCI3* aboard Rubinstar HH – the combination were fifth after the dressage, added time faults in the cross country with a costly 12 faults in the showjumping to finish on 82.4 penalty points.

Future Potential Recognition Squad member Samantha Felton (Matangi) and Ricker Ridge Divine Right were fifth in the CCI3* finishing on 85.4, with fellow squad member Donna Edwards-Smith (Te Kauwhata) and DSE Cluny were sixth.

Felton was also fifth in the Veterinary Associates CCI1* aboard Ricker Ridge Mystery Man, with Edwards-Smith ninth on Sunset Pass.

Talent Development Squad members Maddie Crowe (Hamilton), Abby Lawrence (Te Puke) and Sarah Young (Tokoroa) also did well at Puhinui. Crowe and Waitangi Pinterest were sixth in the CCI2* class, with Lawrence seventh on Charlton Yamani. Young was third in the CCI1* aboard Equador MW with Lawrence right behind her in fourth aboard Anonymous.

Talent ID Squad member Jackson Bovill (Hamilton) celebrated his 21st birthday in style, winning the Honda New Zealand CCI2* Young Rider class aboard Visionnaire. The combination came from behind to take the win on their 50.3 penalty point dressage score.

His fellow squad member Danielle Wheeler (Papakura) placed eighth in the CCI2* on One Cool Dude, with Vicky Browne-Cole (Waiuku) and Amazing Spy fourth in the Devi Heating System CCI1* J class. Beth Wilson (Papakura) placed second in the CCI2* Young Rider class on Alto et Audax.
