KH Ambrose - Owned by Abbie Deken
Abbie Deken figures her love of equestrian began when she was just a tiny tot. At seven – after begging and begging her parents – she finally managed to convince them to take her to Jill Tomkins Riding School.
At nine she got her own pony and until she was 17, was a keen showjumper competing at pony grand prix level. However, once she made the switch to dressage, she never jumped again.
Deken attributes the switch to Kallista Field. She went to her yard to work for a couple of weeks but ended up staying two years and absolutely fell in love with dressage. Her job took her to the World Games as a groom where she was further inspired by the sport.
She is now neighbours with Vanessa Way – Deken’s best friend, coach and mentor. She bought KH Ambrose as an unbroken three-year-old and brought him right through the grades. Deken has previously ridden for New Zealand at the FEI World Challenge.
