PSL Lingh II owned by Lisa Blackbourn
Alex Matheson has been riding forever. While he has covered the disciplines, his focus has been on dressage since he was in his late teens.
At 18, he first represented New Zealand in a team at a CDI in Australia. He was one of two young riders and they were pitched against Heath Ryan and Judy Dirks, which he describes as “probably the strongest team they could find”.
His year spent at Australia’s esteemed Marcus Oldham College, where he studied horse business management, meant plenty of riding which included being part of the New Zealand team at the Asia Pacific Equestrian Games.
The 44-year-old continues to thrive on the challenge dressage brings. It also dovetails nicely with his job as general manager of Omega Capital Ltd, a corporate brokering firm.
He and wife Lisa Blackbourn live in Cambridge where they own Prestige Sporthorses and their imported Dutch stallion PSL Lingh II is the star.
Matheson and PSL Lingh II this year won the Intermediare I at the Horse of the Year Show and were third in the freestyle. Matheson says the stunning dark bay has already caught the eye of many international trainers.
