Another Solid Performance from Thompson

Published 09 April 2016

John Thompson’s solid form is continuing with victory in the Grand Prix Special at the Sydney CDI yesterday afternoon. Aboard JHT Antonello, the newly-crowned 2016 New Zealand Dressage Horse of the Year, the Rio hopeful headed home a 12-strong field, including some of Australia’s top combinations.

But it was tight across the top three, with Thompson finishing on 67.9%, Sue Hearn and Remmington second on 67.63% and Judith Dierks aboard Diamond Star third on 67.53%. Thompson was the only combination to garner a 70-plus percent mark from any single judge.

The win backs up his fourth place efforts yesterday in the CDI Grand Prix where he and Antonello scored 66.82%, to finish behind winner Sue Hearn on Remmington with 68.42%, with Vicki Newham on Diamond Star second with 68.26% and Robbie Soster third aboard Robali Razzamatazz on 66.88%.

This evening Thompson will compete in the freestyle.
