Harris makes it Two from Two

Chris Harris and Glenbrooke Archie Bunker have proved why they are the top combination to beat in winning their second Dunstan Horsefeeds & Equifibre Horse Grand Prix at the South Canterbury A&P Show 7-8 October.

Backing up from their win at SCNO the week before Harris' form continued to win convincing in trying conditions. Constant rain from Saturday evening turned the ground from firm to slippery and cut up tracks from where the show horses had competed Sunday morning did not help course designer Tony Hutton.

Harry Feast was the only other to start in the class with two horses Double J Bouncer and Banderas C. Unfortunately Bouncer was not a fan of the ground and he decided to retire in the second round. However Feast was happy with his first start at this level with Banderas C taking out second place.

Due to the wet conditions there were multiple scratchings on Sunday, however a strong field of pony riders toughed it out to compete in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix. Just one clear round was achieved in the first round by Grace Manera and Tallyho Scoundrel. However four faulters Rosa Buist-Brown and Caitlin Adams kept the pressure on in the second round.

Manera was also sitting on 4 faults with her more experienced pony Rednalhgih Cowan who came out first in round two to complete a stunning clear in 48.16 seconds. Adams and Buist-Brown also followed with clear rounds, but neither could match the time to leave them in second and third place respectively. With the win already secured Manera took her time with Tallyho Scoundrel and had an unfortunate rail to put them in fourth place.

The rider series classes were lucky to have much better conditions on day one with testing courses. The FMG Young Rider and Dunstan Horsefeeds & Equifibre Pro Am classes both had three combinations through to the jump off.

Steffi Whittaker dominated in the FMG Young Rider with scorching jump offs in 39 seconds on Ngahiwi Cruise and 43.17 seconds on Eros K. Grace O'Sullivan was more conservative to finish third in 48.14 seconds.

In the Dunstan Horsefeeds & Equifibre Pro Am first out in the jump off also took first place with Amanda Roy and Rumours NZPH jumping clear in a slick time. Devon van Til and Winterberg tried to match it taking a rail in the process to finish second. Louise Marriot also put her foot down, but retired after her second rail to round out third place.

Both the Caledonian Holdings Amateur Rider and Dunstan Horsefeeds & Equifibre Junior Rider were won on single clear rounds from Kate Perry aboard Casiraghi and Molly Buist-Brown aboard Prestige respectively.
