Kiwi eventers Tim and Jonelle Price and James Avery are flying the New Zealand flag high at the Military Boekelo-Enschede in The Netherlands this week. World no.2 Tim aboard Jarillo, Jonelle on Senor Crocodillo and James with Dallas 13 form the team for the CCI4*-NC-L with Jonelle also starting Clever Louis as an individual.

The 4*-L has attracted 112 combinations, with 12 countries in the Nations Cup.

Boekelo is a happy hunting ground for Tim who has twice won the event – last year aboard Happy Boy and in 2017 with Cekatinka. It is Jarillo’s first time to Boekelo and he is on debut at 4*-L level but the combination were third in the $8-S for eight and nine-year-olds at Blenheim in their last start.

Jonelle’s mount Senor Crocodillo is also on debut at Boekelo while Clever Louis placed second at the event in 2019 with Chris Burton in the saddle.

Dallas 13 is another debutant but was top 10 in the4*-S for eight and nine-year-olds at Blenheim recently.

All the Kiwi combinations are safely through this morning’s horse inspection with the next two days dedicated to dressage. Saturday’s cross country has been designed by Adrian Ditcham (GBR) under the watchful eye of Giuseppe Della Chiesa (ITA), with Sunday’s showjumping the domain of Kris Gelder Van (NED).

Historically New Zealand have done well at Boekelo. As well as Tim twice on the honours’ board, Lizzie Brown with Henton Attorney General (2013) Andrew Nicholson on Quimbo (2012) and Sheff’s Choice (2001), Sir Mark Todd on Regal Scott (1998), and Blyth Tait on Chesterfield (1997) and Aspyring (1994) are all etched on the top trophy.
