New Zealand has taken the lead in the FEI Nations Cup class after an exciting day of showjumping at the Millstreet International Horse Trials. The Kiwis sit on 100.3 penalty points (best three scores) in the CCIO4*-NC-S class with the United States now in second on 107.2, hosts Ireland in third on 107.8 and Australia in fourth on 108.2.

In the individual rankings, Jonelle Price and McClaren moved from 12th to fifth thanks to a perfect showjumping round to remain on their 32.9 dressage score. Dan Jocelyn and Blackthorn Cruise were all clear to sit on 33.9 in ninth spot while Hollie Swain and Ballycoskerry Regal Diamond added nothing to their 37 penalty point dressage score.

Clarke Johnstone was also all clear and inside time on both his horses Rocket Man and Domasco but has withdrawn both before tonight’s cross country. Rain has softened the track considerably with adjustments being made to the track for tonight’s competition.

Clarke placed second in the CCI3*-S which finished this morning. He and Aces High added just 7.2 time in the cross country for a final tally of 34.5, with winner Sam Ecroyd (GBR) aboard Chapel House on 29.6. Sam Lissington and Delarado were 11th on 46.1 with Caroline Powell and Tik Tok finishing the competition on 52.2.

Jonelle Price and Chilli’s Midnight Star sit in third in the CCI4*-L after the dressage and cross country tests. The Mike Etherington-Smith course was made more challenging due to the weather with no one home clear and inside time, five retirements and one elimination.

Jonelle and Chilli’s Midnight Star added 20 time penalties for their 52.2 score, with Sam Watson (IRL) and Ballyneety Rocketman leading on 44.4 after adding just 9.6 time – the best effort of the class. Caroline Powell and High Time added 33.6 time for their 68.2 tally for 10th place with just the showjumping to come.

Jonelle and Full Monty de Lacense were clear jumping in the cross country but added time in the CCI3*-L to sit on 40.5 in seventh spot. Sam Ecroyd (GBR) and Bloomfield Manuscript lead on 27.9. Just four combinations were clear and inside time, with two retirements and two eliminations.

Sam Lissington and Mr Cookie Time are leading the CCI2*-L after the dressage and cross country test and remain on 22.2. Hollie Swain and Jumbelissa sit on 33.4. Sam is also firing in the CCIYH2*-S, sitting in first and second aboard Nadal and Never Know Mb respectively. She was clear showjumping on both mounts to remain on their scores of 29.9 and 30.4.

The event finishes this evening.
